Rachel presenting workshop on Home Progams for Speech and Language
For any interested paediatric speech pathologists and/or speech pathology students Rachel Tosh will be presenting on behalf of Speech Pathology Australia on 28th March 2014 in Brisbane. The presentation is titled, “Paediatric Home Programs: Evidence, Practice and Clinical Use”.
This workshop aims to provide an overview of the literature as well as practical ideas for the use of speech and language home programs with paediatric populations. Contrasting schemas will be illustrated and explained to assist clinicians in deciding when and how to use (or not use) home programs in clinical practice. Practical ideas for using home programmes more effectively will be a key focus including how to:
• balance family and service priorities;
• assess and harness family capacity;
• train parents and carers;
• structure and format programs;
• monitor and evaluate progress;
• review and update programs.
The workshop will feature a clinical materials “show and share” which offers a unique opportunity to refine, update and improve existing home programs as well as gather new ideas from other clinicians.
